2 Legendary Horsemen

The Brumby Catcher, Gauvin

The Brumby Catcher

Racing on the 'wing' of the brumby mob - a position taken only by the 'crack' rider - is the famous stockman Clancy of the Overflow. Clancy joined the gathering of top riders called to recapture a thoroughbred colt which had been enticed away by the wild horses. As a future racing champion, the colt's value is a thousand pounds. But for Clancy, the true prize is not the reward; it's the thrill of the chase, the joy of pitting all of his skills and his experience against those of the wily black stallion who leads the mob. The painting was published as Plate 6  in Banjo Paterson's Australians.
