3 Legendary Horsemen

The Teams
When militant unions called for a general strike by Bush workers to support striking shearers, many unionist teamsters joined in. They abandoned hundreds of fully laden wagons of baled wool at the railheads. Unhitching their teams of horses or bullocks, they walked off to await developments. It was not what they expected. Camel drivers called "Afghans" poured in to take up the work. The teamsters reckoned their union principles a poor second to providing for their families and returned to meet the challenge of their turbaned rivals. The painting was reproduced as Plate 15 in The Painted Swagman - A Tribute to Waltzing Matilda.
